Liverpool drew 2-2 with Nottingham Forest at Anfield on Saturday, twice falling behind and twice recovering, and Andoni Iraola is still waiting for his first Premier League win as Liverpool manager.
It is the second consecutive week the game has finished 2-2. That is starting to look less like variance and more like a description of the team.
How it went
Dan Ndoye gave Forest a first-half lead their play merited. Alexander Isak levelled on the hour. Then Morgan Gibbs-White put the visitors back in front from the spot after Alisson had fouled Neco Williams — a penalty that, for twenty minutes, looked like it would give Forest a third straight win at this ground.
Víctor Muñoz, the £34.5m summer signing, equalised eight minutes from time on his home debut. The relief in the stadium was audible, which tells its own story about the afternoon.
The pattern
Twice behind at home to a side that finished below you is not a crisis in late August. But Forest have now taken points at Anfield in three consecutive visits, and a Liverpool side carrying this summer’s spending is not supposed to be relying on 82nd-minute goals from debutants to avoid defeat.
