Mourinho shuts the door: "The squad is closed for me"
Real Madrid will make no further signings before Tuesday's deadline, despite being linked with a midfielder and a centre-back.
José Mourinho has said he expects no further arrivals at Real Madrid before the transfer window closes on Tuesday at midnight.
“The squad is closed for me, but the transfer window is still open,” he told reporters — a formulation that concedes the decision is not entirely his.
Six is enough
Real Madrid have already signed Marc Cucurella, Ibrahima Konaté, Bernardo Silva, Denzel Dumfries, Yan Diomandé and Carlos Espí this summer. Reporting through August had the club still looking at a midfielder and another centre-back; the club is now understood to have ruled out further business.
The door that stays open
Exits are a different matter. Eduardo Camavinga continues to be linked with the Premier League, and a squad that has added six players has more bodies than minutes to distribute among them.
Mourinho saying the squad is closed to him is not the same as saying it is closed. There are thirty-six hours in which to find out which he meant.
