Liverpool have completed the signing of Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain, closing the largest transfer of the European summer and ending a pursuit that ran for the better part of three months.

The structure, as reported by the Associated Press, is £106m guaranteed with a further £17m available in add-ons — a total of £123m, or roughly $166m. That is short of the £145m PSG were said to have wanted when Liverpool first asked, and it makes Barcola the second most expensive player in the club’s history behind Alexander Isak.

Two years that changed the price

Barcola arrived in Paris from Lyon in August 2023 with 47 senior appearances to his name. He leaves with 152 for PSG alone, 39 goals and 35 assists among them, across a period in which the club won three consecutive Ligue 1 titles and back-to-back Champions Leagues.

The near-parity between his goals and assists is the number worth sitting with. From a player who spent most of that time starting wide on the left, it describes a forward whose first instinct is to move the ball into a better position rather than shoot from the one he is in.

“It took a long time”

“It’s a great pride to be able to play for Liverpool,” Barcola told the club’s official channels. “I’m very happy. It took a long time but I’m really happy today.”

He takes the No. 29 shirt, and becomes the fourth senior addition of a window that has already brought Jeremy Jacquet, Víctor Muñoz and, on loan, Ronald Araújo.

Not the last move

Liverpool are not finished. With the window closing on Tuesday night, the club remain active on the right flank, where Ismaila Sarr and Yankuba Minteh are both under consideration, and have agreed terms with Genk for the goalkeeper Lucca Brughmans.
