Liverpool have had a bid for Ismaila Sarr turned down by Crystal Palace, according to multiple reports, with the two clubs some distance apart on the day before the window closes.

The offer is reported as £45m with a further £5m in add-ons. Palace are said to be holding out for £75m — a valuation described in reporting as reflecting their unhappiness at being asked to sell a first-choice forward with hours of the window remaining.

Why Liverpool want him

The right flank has been the visible gap in this squad all summer, and it did not close when Bradley Barcola arrived — Barcola’s work is predominantly on the left. Sarr is understood to be the club’s preferred option, ahead of Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh.

The Gakpo link

Reporting through the window has connected the two situations: that Liverpool would only entertain an £85m offer for Cody Gakpo from Manchester City if a right-sided replacement arrived first. Gakpo has since signed a new long-term contract, which reads as the club settling one question rather than the other.

Where it stands

Unresolved. Neither Palace nor Brighton have shown signs of moving, and Liverpool have until Tuesday night.

Reported by Liverpool.com and Rousing The Kop. No bid or valuation has been confirmed by either club.
