Liverpool have agreed £30m for a 6ft 7in teenager you've never heard of
A deal is in place with Genk for goalkeeper Lucca Brughmans, 18. Whether he arrives now or in 2027 depends on somebody else leaving.
Liverpool have agreed a £30m deal with Genk for the goalkeeper Lucca Brughmans, according to reporting, with the 18-year-old undergoing a medical before Tuesday’s deadline.
He is 6ft 7in, which is remarkable at any age and particularly at his.
The condition
The timing of his arrival is not settled, and it does not depend on him. As reported, Brughmans is due to join in 2027 and spend the remainder of this season at Genk — unless Giorgi Mamardashvili leaves for Nottingham Forest, in which case the move is brought forward.
That is an unusual structure to make public, and it tells you Liverpool are buying a goalkeeper they rate rather than one they currently need.
The fifth signing
Completing the deal would make Brughmans Liverpool’s fifth addition of the summer, after Jeremy Jacquet, Víctor Muñoz, the on-loan Ronald Araújo and Bradley Barcola. £30m for a teenager who may not arrive for a year is the kind of spending a club does when it has just been valued at $6bn.
