Real Madrid just put Florentino Pérez's name on the building
The club's training complex is to be renamed Florentino Pérez Real Madrid City.
Real Madrid’s training complex at Valdebebas is to be renamed Florentino Pérez Real Madrid City, the club has announced.
Pérez has been president across two spells since 2000, a tenure that covers the original galácticos, six European Cups and the rebuilding of the Santiago Bernabéu.
Naming things after the living
It is an unusual honour in that it is not posthumous, and clubs are generally cautious about naming permanent infrastructure after people who are still making decisions about it. Real Madrid have decided the record justifies it.
“Real Madrid has an enormous gigantic legion of fans spread out all over the world,” Pérez said in remarks published by the club — a reminder that the complex being renamed is also a commercial asset in a global business he substantially built.
