Marc Cucurella, Ibrahima Konaté, Bernardo Silva, Denzel Dumfries, Yan Diomandé and Carlos Espí arrived inside a single summer, at a combined outlay dominated by one fee.
What was actually bought
A left-back, a centre-back, a right-back, a midfielder and a winger — which is to say, a spine rather than a shopping list. Dumfries arrives from Inter as the long-term answer at right-back, a position Real Madrid have been deferring a decision on for several seasons.
The integration problem
Six players is a lot of new information for a dressing room. It is also six players who need minutes, in a squad that already had a first eleven, under a manager who has said the squad is now closed.
Three wins and ten goals from three games suggests it is going well. Three games is also not long enough for it to have gone badly yet.
